Jesus the Teacher

Passage: John 4:7-26

The Lord is righteous in all his ways and faithful in all he does. The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. Psalm 145:17-18

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

Read John 4: 7-26. Jesus intentionally went out of his way to meet the woman at the well “where she was at.” In your journey to faith in Christ, how has Jesus “met you where you were at?”

In John 4:14, Jesus offered “a spring of living water welling up into eternal life.”  In John 7:38 Jesus said: “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”  How do you hear these promises? What do you think Jesus is describing here? How would you describe your own experience of the “living water” Jesus speaks of?

What do you think the Samaritan woman was longing for in her life that only Jesus could satisfy?  When you came to faith in Christ, was there a longing, a thirst, in your life that was unsatisfied? Did that longing help draw you to Jesus? What are you longing for in this season of life? How might Jesus speak to this longing?

In John 4:23 Jesus says:  But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. How can this truth help shape our own personal worship and our worship as a church?

Everlasting God, in your boundless love you are doing a new thing. In Jesus, the only mediator, you have redeemed, called, justified, sanctified, and glorified me, with all your people. Continue that salvation in me today, through Jesus Christ, my mighty Savior, amen. (Westminster Confession 8.1)
