A Lost Man Who Is Found
Passage: Luke 19:1-10
REFLECTION QUOTES
“Grace is bestowed on us, not because we have done good works, but that we may be able to do them.”
—Augustine
“Every habit is like a suggestion: ‘Hey, maybe this is who I am. If you finish a book, then perhaps you are the type of person who likes reading. If you go to the gym, then perhaps you are the type of person who likes exercise’…Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become…No single instance will transform your beliefs, but as the votes build up, so does the evidence of your new identity.”
—James Clear, Atomic Habits
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
Consider the various reactions to hearing your name: what do you think comes to their mind when your close family/friends hear or call your name, or Jesus, or when you think of yourself? Whose perspective do you find yourself caring about most? Why does that perspective matter to you?

Zacchaeus was curious about Jesus and wanted to see Jesus. When were you first curious about Jesus, wanting to spiritually see him? What resulted from your curiosity?
Zacchaeus’s life is rearranged by encountering Jesus and receiving his salvation. What inward and outward signs of transformation do you notice in this passage? What inward and outward signs of transformation have you noticed in your life from following Jesus? (Consider areas of life such as politics, sports, entertainment, sex, identity, work, leisure, money.)
Zacchaeus wanted to see Jesus, but Jesus saw him first. Zacchaeus came down from the tree to meet with Jesus, because Jesus would be nailed up on a tree made into a cross to save Zacchaeus and us. What helps you remember God’s love for you and what encourages you to care most what Jesus thinks of you?
