The Testimony of God

Passage: 1 John 5:6-15

“Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.”  1 John 5:12-13

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

What is meaningful or memorable gift you have been given? What was it like to receive it? What did it mean to you?

Read 1 John 5:6-15. What ideas or phrases surprise, encourage, or spark questions for you?

How does God’s testimony give you assurance that you have eternal life? What impact does it have on you that God wants you to know you have eternal life in him?

The first question of the New City Catechism is: What is our only hope in life and death? The answer: That we are not our own but belong, body and soul, both in life and death, to God and to our Savior Jesus Christ. How does the certain hope of heaven impact the way you live today?

We receive confidence in prayer, so we pray; safety from sin so we confess; perspective on this world so we go with God’s love making disciples; and understanding of God so we continue to learn God’s truth. These are 4 God-given realities we receive in this life in Jesus. In what ways are you engaging in these realities? Are there ways you could be enjoying any of these more fully?
