Mercy For The Daughters

Passage: Luke 8:40-56

No more let sins and sorrows grow
Nor thorns infest the ground
He comes to make
His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found
Far as the curse is found
Far as, far as the curse is found

Joy to the World

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

In what ways are you experiencing the desire to be seen, loved, and known in this season of life?

Read Luke 8:40-56. What does this passage show you about God’s character and about being his follower? What challenges, encourages, or sparks questions for you in this passage?

What do you notice from this passage as an example of trusting in Jesus? What person in this text do you identify with?

In what ways does Jesus see, love, and provide security for the woman we meet in 8:43 and Jairus’s daughter?

Healing is the temporary breaking in of God’s kingdom. All healing is a taste now of what we will fully experience when Jesus returns. What challenges have you wrestled with in trusting that God is with you and for you as you long for healing?

In the sermon, three invitations were given to strengthen our trust in God when we don’t see his healing power: 1) bring your disappointments to God, 2) practice active gratitude, and 3) allow yourself to hope in the end – for God’s kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven. Have any of these practices helped you? Are there other truths or practices that have helped you to continue trusting in God’s goodness for you?

What from this passage and this discussion is something you want to put into practice or be more aware of this week or praise God for?

PRAYER

Share with your group how they can be praying for you: what is weighing on you from this past week? What are you praising God for from this past week?

In this life and ultimately in the next, God promises in Christ:
“To bless you and keep you; To make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; to turn his face toward you and give you peace.”’ (paraphrase of Number 6:24-26)
