Mary’s Song

Passage: Luke 1:39-56

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”  – John 8:12

“No more let sins and sorrows grow, nor thorns infest the ground; he comes to make his blessings flow far as the curse is found.” – Joy to the World

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

What is one of your favorite Christmas songs? Why?

Read Luke 1:39-56. What do you observe about God from this passage? What does this story teach us about who God is, what he cares about, and how he cares for his people? Anything that surprises you or sparks questions?

Mary and Elizabeth share a Holy Spirit inspired communal joy marked by their shared need for and joy in God. What does their relationship teach us about the Christian life and who can you be an Elizabeth to in this season?

Our culture highly values being true to yourself and trusting fully in yourself. Mary shows us how to trust in God and personally receive God’s love. This is humility: not thinking less of ourselves but thinking of ourselves less and magnifying God. How does Mary do this in her song?

Mary had a muscle memory of her soul filled with God’s Word and promises that prepared her well for this moment. What practices are shaping your soul’s muscle memory to trust in God’s promises?
