Eternal Friendship

Passage: Mark 2:1-12

“Nothing shuts the mouth, seals the lips, ties the tongue, like the poverty of our own spiritual experience.”
—John Stott, Romans
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
—John 15:13

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

Who is someone in your life who has brought you to Jesus, either initially introducing you to Jesus or pointed you to Jesus along the way?

Read Mark 2:1-12. Who do you initially identify with in this passage? What does this passage tell/show us about Jesus?

The paralyzed man is brought to Jesus because of his physical need, but Jesus knows his deepest need: forgiveness. Jesus addresses both levels of need – what does this teach us about our needs and desires? How does the gospel address our needs and desires? What does the man do to have Jesus meet his needs?

Everyone (including ourselves) has a “mat” – we are not the way we’re supposed to be. Jesus alone can set us free. We all need to be carried to Jesus and then we have the opportunity to carry one another to Jesus. Who comes to your mind as someone in your life right now that you can seek to carry to Jesus? What is their “mat” how can this be an opportunity for them to see their need for Jesus and for you to point them to Jesus?

PRAYER

Share with your group how they can be praying for you: what is weighing on you from this past week? What are you praising God for from this past week?

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2
